- Birth + day should include the year, and it only makes sense to celebrate it exactly once in a lifetime. Only when you were born.
- But why do we say “happy birthday” each year? In my home country, the saying “happy birthday” can be translated as “congratulations on a repeat year” (selamat ulang tahun). There is a sense of repeatability of a new year.
- Do years really repeat? Or is every year a brand-new, start from blank, year?
